Switzerland is a central European country known, amongst other thing, for its high mountainous regions, lakes, villages and the Swizz Alps, which offer one of the most amazing hunting landscapes in the world. The most sought-after species in Switzerland are the chamois and the Alpine ibex, the two most iconic species of the European mountains.
With regards to hunting, Switzerland holds the strictest rules, although hunting has been part of their day to day ever since. Consequently, access to international hunters is highly restricted, being only authorized in a region or canton, as they call it, situated in the south of the Swizz Alps. Additionally, the number of “trophy” permits issued every year, both for chamois and ibex, are very limited and not easy to obtain. For that reason, we encourage to start planning this hunt with at least a year in advance.
The limit in the number of permits issued, enables this region to have a healthy population of both chamois and ibex, and provides the chance of getting some outstanding trophies every year .
The hunt is planned for 2 days, which is more than enough time as long as the weather cooperates. To avoid this, we always suggest the hunt to take place before November 20th, as the heavy snows at this time of the year could compromise access to the mountain.
