As a bridge between the United States and South America, Mexico occupies a large extension of terrain and constitutes de third largest country of North America. It is characterized by a great variety of landscapes which goes from the high rugged mountains and dessert areas of Sonora to the tropical jungles of Yucatan and the beautiful beaches washed by the Caribbean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Rio Grande with its more that 1,800 miles is Mexico’s natural border with United Stated to the north, whereas in the south it borders with Guatemala and Belize.
Envisaged as a fantastic fishing destination for marling and dorado on both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, Mexico is well known for its hunting possibilities, being the preferred destination for desert bighorn sheep and massive mule deer or bura deer as they call it. There are also several species of deer, mountain lion, peccary and the wing shooting is among the very best in the world, although very little exploited.
Most of our hunting operations take place in the northern areas of the country, within the State of Sonora, although places as Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon, Durango and Coahuila are also good references for desert bighorn, mule deer and coues deer hunting. Hunts may be either be arranged in huge ranches, some of which belong to clients who have hunted with us internationally or game reserves registered under the UMA or PAMS game control administration.
Hunts conducted in Mexico through our outfitters are mainly focused around desert bighorn sheep with a total of 8 hunting days. However, mule deer or coues deer can be added for an extra hunting day. A typical hunting day for sheep will consist of hiking with your guides glassing from vantage points. Unlike many hunters believe, rams can be very difficult to spot and although it may not be as physical demanding as other sheep hunting in North America, patience is a must when searching for old ram. On top of that, hunters are expected to be capable of taking long shots if the opportunity is presented and be prepared to hike for long hours. Average free range rams measure between 160” and 170” are not an exception.
Upon arrival to Hermosillo, hunters will be assisted through all custom clearance procedures by representatives of the company. Hunters will be then transferred to the hunting area, which could be on the next day depending on the arrival time to Hermosillo. Depending on the type of hunt, accommodation vary from luxury hotels to ranch houses and even tented camps. Mexicans are extraordinary friendly people and to see the hunting guides searching for sheep or deer is truly amazing.
Hunting season depends from one place to another and each management unit could have slightly different dates. Generally, the season runs from November to May being the months of January and February probably the best ones.
