5. General Comment

The Republic of Kazakhstan is located in the heart of the Asian continent and its territory is twice as big as all the republics of Central Asia together, being the ninth largest country in the world.

Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan, located at the foothills of the Tien Shan Mountains and the entry point for most international hunters.

Kazakhstan is a real paradise for any mountain hunters. Our outfitter and its well-developed infrastructure allow us to maintain an outstanding level of services. The company owns its own hunting grounds, a specialized fleet of vehicles and a satellite communications terminal. On top of that, guides are highly qualified and will deliver some of the best mountain hunting in Asia. Amongst the different possibilities, we offer ibex and maral hunts, which can both be combined with Siberian roe deer.

In our experience, Mid-Asian Ibex (capra sibirica alaina) is the most popular hunt amongst international hunters. In order to satisfy the interests of everyone, we currently have two different options. The first one takes place in the areas of Tastau and Zhasylkol, between 11 and 15 hours’ drive from Almaty. There is, however, the chance of flying domestically for about 1 hour to Usharal and then drive for approximately 5-6 hours to main camp. These are very remote areas, close to the Dzungarian Alatau Ridge and China’s border. The hunt takes place between 6,000 and 9,500 feet high, which is significantly lower than in Kyrgyzstan, its neighbour country and an excellent destination for ibex as well. This has an effect in the general quality of the ibex, providing much bigger trophies with a remarkably high change of being able to harvest an ibex over 47 inches. The other option would be Matay, with an extension of 27,000 hectares, bordering the Altyn Emel Ridge and situated 5 hours away from Almaty. This hunt takes place at about 4,900 feet high and there is usually no fly camp involved, being a more comfortable hunt.

On the other hand, Kazakhstan is well known for producing the biggest Maral in the world. Our clients access some of the most exclusive areas in the country and every season, we obtain, on average, trophies which are way above other places in Kazakhstan, with some really outstanding trophies reaching 7 lbs. Our hunts take place between 6,000-8,200 feet high where horses are normally used.

Finally, hunters may combine any of these hunts with the Siberian roe deer, adding a few extra days to the itinerary. Although roe deers are distributed throughout most of the territory, our hunts are conducted close to Almaty at 4,900-6,500 feet in one of the most breathtaking landscapes.
