Croatia is well known for its longlasting hunting traditions, as well as being one of the top tourism destinations in Europe. These factors, together with its wide wildlife spectrum, makes Croatia a wonderful alternative for those hunters willing to do a comfortable and nice hunt.
Amongst the many hunting possibilities that Croatia offers, at Camino Real Hunting Consultants we believe that the most interesting ones are the chamois, mouflon sheep, European brown bear, and the wild boar driven hunts.
With over 11,000 hectares and close to the sea, Biokovo offers one of the most comfortable chamois hunts in the world, if not the most. With a maximum altitude of 1,700 meters, this area has nice paths which enable hunters to access the mountain in a quite easy way. On top of that, the chamois population is very healthy, and one can start seeing game from the very beginning. The average trophies range between 95 – 100 CIC points. Furthermore, this area concentrates an important population of mouflon sheep, allowing hunters for a beautiful combination hunt. If the hunter would rather hunt mouflon sheep in another area, we can always send him to Dubrovnik, within the Peljeslac region, where we hunt in the most exclusive concession, taking some outstanding mouflons every year.
With regards to brown bear hunting, Croatia probably has one of the strongest and most solid bear population in Europe. Bears are quite concentrated in the areas of Primorsko-Goranska and Lika-Senjs, known for its remoteness and food abundance, essential for bears. The hunts are normally conducted from comfortable high seat or cabin where bears are baited using carrion and sweets. Although nothing is guaranteed, the success rate is practically 100% with bears scoring over 350 CIC points. Hunters have the opportunity of stalking the bears instead, however the success rate is significantly lower.
Finally, wild boar driven hunts are immensely popular as well, offering a wide range of different possibilities. In areas such as Novska, Baranja and Bukovac, wild boar numbers have amazingly increased during the last decade. Organized in teams of no less than 10 guns, days are arranged in 3 different drives. Lunch takes place in the beautiful countryside and after the day, all wild boars are put together on the “tableau” as a way of respect and paying tribute.
