Situated in eastern Europe and belonging to the Balkan Peninsula, Bulgaria is divided by the Balkan Mountains from north to south occupying 110,000 sqkm and an average altitude of 1,200 feet. It borders with Romania to the north, Serbia and Macedonia to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south and the Black Sea to the east, being a hunting paradise for any hunter.
Our hunting territory is predominantly mountainous, although these are not very difficult mountains and any hunter in a slightly good physical condition will have a wonderful experience hunting the kind of the European goats, the chamois. This particular area is well known for the red deer hunts, which are conducted in a mid-mountainous terrain of extreme beauty where hunters will have the opportunity to stalk the deer up to a very close distance while roaring during the rutting season. Hunters can expect individuals on the range of a 10 kg trophy. Finally, when referring to big game hunting, this territory also offers amazing opportunities to hunt other species such as fallow deer, roe dee, mouflon sheep and wild boar.
Wild boars can either be hunted by stalking them or in driven hunts, very appropriate for groups between 5 and 10 hunters. Wild boar drives are considered by many European hunters one of the most exciting and traditional ways of hunting and the chances of getting an old “keiller” in this unique 42,000 hectares concession, is definitely the most heart pounding experience for any wild boar hunter.
With regards to small game hunting and just to mention a few, Bulgaria offers a great opportunity for capercaillie and woodcock hunting. Capercaillie hunts take place between April 15th and May 15th, coinciding with their mating season. Chased during the early and late hours of the day, capercaillie is a challenging bird that will test any hunter’s capabilities.
